Background history

South of Scotland Enterprise began operating in April 2020, with a mission to address the distinct challenges of the two rural regions of the South: Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders.

SOSE grew out of a Scottish Government enterprise and skills review that identified the need for a dedicated economic agency for the South, due to its unique challenges and opportunities.

The agency was set up by an act of Scottish Parliament, and is funded by and accountable to the Scottish Government.
