South of Scotland Enterprise becomes Carbon Literate Organisation
We have become a Carbon Literate Organisation, highlighting our commitment to leading the region’s journey to Net Zero.
We received a Bronze Award from The Carbon Literacy Project, in recognition of our work to promote Carbon Literacy amongst our 140-strong staff and Board members.
We are the first Scottish enterprise agency to be named a Carbon Literate Organisation, and are now aiming for a coveted Silver Award, which is currently held by less than 30 organisations across the UK.
What does the award mean?
- The Bronze award recognises our ongoing efforts to promote the benefits of a Just Transition to Net Zero for the region’s businesses, social enterprises and communities.
- This has included all Board members, and the majority of its staff, undertaking Carbon Literacy training, making them more aware of climate change and recognising the steps that they can take to reduce their carbon footprint at home and at work.
- All staff will have completed the training by April 2022.
- Speak Carbon delivered the Carbon Literacy training for SOSE, and is accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project.
Jane Morrison-Ross, Chief Executive
“SOSE is committed to driving a Just Transition to Net Zero across the South of Scotland.
“An essential step on that journey is building our knowledge and capacity to tackle the climate and nature crisis, which is why SOSE being named a Carbon Literate Organisation is so important to us.
“All of our Board members have undergone the intensive training involved, while all of our staff have shown considerable commitment and will have completed the training by April.
“This training will help us identify solutions and opportunities for our businesses, social enterprises and communities, including the renewable energy and natural capital advantages we have in the South which we believe can attract significant inward investment.
“This in turn will improve our service and will help us amplify the voice of the South of Scotland as a Net Zero leader in Scotland, and across the UK.”
Dave Coleman, Managing Director and Co-Founder, The Carbon Literacy Project
“We are delighted to recognise SOSE with a Bronze CLO Award, which represents a real mark of progress on their own low carbon journey.
“This award puts SOSE in an even better position to support local businesses and communities in the South of Scotland, and help them to thrive, in the newly arriving Net Zero economy.”
Lucy-Jane Robeson, an Economic Development Modern Apprentice at SOSE, has completed the training.
“The Carbon Literacy training is definitely one I will not forget.
“The training is packed full of facts and images to get people talking and taking action on climate change, which is exactly what we want.
“I have already recommended it to friends and had discussions with family around this globally important issue, and must thank Speak Carbon team for their inspirational teaching.”
