SOSE welcomes Center Parcs’ plans for major development

We have welcomed the announcement of one of the biggest ever investment proposals for the region.

Center Parcs have outlined their vision to create its first Scottish holiday village near Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

Subject to planning permission, the company estimates the £350million project could deliver  up to 1,200 permanent jobs in the region once fully opened.

SOSE Chair, Russel Griggs OBE, said:

“Center Parcs’ plans represent what would be the biggest investment in the South of Scotland since the arrival of the Borders Railway.

“I am delighted Center Parcs have chosen our area to make this commitment and recognised  what the South of Scotland has to offer.

“SOSE’s involvement in the Center Parcs’ proposal is not financial but we will aim to support the company with its engagement with local businesses and community, and make sure the South of Scotland is ready to capitalise on the huge opportunity in front of us.”

SOSE Chief Executive Jane Morrison-Ross, said:

“The proposal by Center Parcs to create its first Scottish holiday village in the South of Scotland has the potential to be a transformational investment for our region.

“While the project is still in its early stages, it could bring massive economic benefits, including significant supply chain opportunities for SMEs and entrepreneurs.

“Our ambition is for the South of Scotland to become a rural economic powerhouse and Center Parcs’ proposed development can play a key role in achieving this goal.

“This proposal will be a catalyst for other inward investors to be part of Scotland’s Natural Capital Innovation Zone with the opportunities in energy transition, agri-tech, forestry, and land & marine based innovation.”
