Update on land purchase at Chapelcross

We have provided an update on our plans to create an Energy Transition Zone on a site adjacent to Chapelcross.

We made the purchase of the 6.5 hectare site near Annan in November 2023.

We are creating serviced plots on the land, with the aim of generating jobs and inward investment which is focussed on the transition to green energy production.

Surveys and assessments of the site were completed in spring 2024, with utility connections currently being installed.

Planning permission is then required before road access and site servicing is installed, with the first businesses expected to be on the site in 2025/26.

Adjacent to the M74 corridor, the site offers excellent road and rail transport links and as a result we have already had significant interest from businesses from outwith the South keen to move into the region.

Interested companies

Any companies focussed on green energy production who are keen to find out more about the Chapelcross Energy Transition Zone are encouraged to find out more.

SOSE's Chapelcross Energy Transition Zone kickstarts the development of the main Chapelcross site, which is being taken forward by a variety of partners.

Annan Riding of the Marches access

As part of our works at its Energy Transition Zone, access to some parts of the site will be restricted to allow utility connections to be completed.

This will take place after the Annan Riding of the Marches in early July, with the festival’s main rideout visiting the site.
