New Coldstream Holiday Park

South of Scotland Enterprise supports new Coldstream Holiday Park

A significant economic boost for the eastern Scottish Borders is predicted from a new holiday park in Coldstream supported by South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).

The economic and community development agency for the South of Scotland has provided funding of £225,000 to help ensure the plans for Coldstream Holiday Park come to fruition.

What will the holiday park provide?

The first phase of the £1.3million development will see:

  • 25 static caravan pitches, 14 touring pitches and 20 camping pitches and glamping pods introduced at the site opposite the town’s medical practice.
  • A further 74 static caravan pitches are to be created in the next phase of the holiday park.
  • The facility is expected to create five permanent and seasonal posts and around 20 further jobs within the local community.
  • The development has an estimated economic benefit for the local area of £1.3m per year and will meet a key objective of the Coldstream Action Plan to see a caravan/camping site re-introduced to the town.

The new Coldstream Holiday Park, which obtained planning permission in December 2020, is expected to open this summer, when it is hoped COVID-19 restrictions will be eased, with the aim of maximising the expected increase in staycation holidays.

Chris Gregg, who has owned and run the Blackadder Holiday Park in nearby Greenlaw since 1995

“I would like to thank SOSE for generously supporting the development of our brand-new Coldstream Holiday Park. This funding will undoubtedly help us to realise our ambition of providing a much-needed caravan park for Coldstream while at the same time help us to make a significant contribution to the tourism offering for Berwickshire.

“I am absolutely thrilled that Coldstream Holiday Park will open this summer, and once the current restrictions have eased.

“We look forward to building a vibrant 21st century business which will encourage many, many visitors to visit and return to this lovely and unique Border town.”

Chair of SOSE, Professor Russel Griggs OBE

“I am delighted SOSE has been able to support this significant development for Coldstream and the wider Berwickshire area.

“The holiday park is in a fantastic location for attracting visitors from both sides of the border with a range of accommodation provision and is expected to provide many benefits for the local community.

“This development is another example of our support for projects which match our ambitions, for the benefit of the South of Scotland.”

Jane Morrison-Ross, Chief Executive of SOSE

“The tourism industry is absolutely vital to the South of Scotland, with 4.6million annual visitors and a related spend of over £600m supporting around 12,000 jobs.

“We are committed to working with South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA), VisitScotland, Dumfries and Galloway Council and Scottish Borders Council to support our communities and businesses to reopen safely when allowed to do so and welcome back visitors to our region.

“While travel restrictions remain in place which everyone must adhere to, the Scottish Government announcement this week gives us all hope that we can begin to see the revival of our tourism economy at some point this year.”
