Fair Work campaign

SOSE launches campaign to encourage businesses to unlock the power of Fair Work

We have launched a new campaign to encourage all businesses across the region to adopt Fair Work practices.

The new imaginative campaign promotes the concept that fair working practices are good for business.

It highlights the importance of organisations being visible in their attitudes, behaviours, culture, policies and practices, while demonstrating the value placed on Fair Work and equal and equitable opportunity.

How does SOSE support Fair Work in region?

  • We provide expert advice and guidance on this journey, which in return will make positive changes to organisational culture by embedding the Fair Work dimensions into the workplace, all for the benefit of both employers and employees.
  • Organisations across the South of Scotland that receive any form of grant funding from SOSE are required to provide evidence that they pay the Real Living Wage to all workers and have appropriate channels for effective workers’ voice.
  • All of our clients are offered support to develop and progress their action plan.
  • Businesses do not have to be receiving financial support from SOSE to receive help with embedding fair working practices in their organisation.
  • So whether you are already on your Fair Work journey or need help to start, SOSE can assist by clicking here or call 0300 304 8888.

New campaign

The new campaign includes a series of animated videos which highlight how Fair Work is good for business, by offering individuals an effective voice, opportunity, security, respect and fulfilment which, in turn, benefits employers and employees.

Our mission, alongside its regional partners, is to drive forward Fair Work across the South of Scotland to create a greener, fairer and flourishing South of Scotland for all.

The campaign supports the Scottish Government and Fair Work Convention’s vision that by 2025, people in Scotland will have a world-leading working life where Fair Work drives success, wellbeing and prosperity for individuals, businesses, organisations and society.

Seonaid Mann, our Fair Work and Equalities Lead said:

“Embedding Fair Work into organisations makes a real difference to people, their communities, business and the economy.

“This campaign is all about helping businesses understand that Fair Work benefits everyone. It is good for business because fair and inclusive workplaces have happier, healthier more fulfilled employees who are more productive, more creative and more inclined towards constructive problem solving.

“This in turn leads to many benefits for the organisation including reduced internal conflict, happier customers and ultimately increased profitability. It is a win-win situation all round.”

Jane Morrison-Ross, our Chief Executive, added:

“Fair Work is simply a way of describing what good businesses have been doing for a long time – recognising that their people are key to success, profitability and growth.

“Fair Work can provide real, tangible benefits for both staff and businesses, and that benefits the local economy, local people and society.

“Our goal is to make sure everyone in the South of Scotland benefits from fair and inclusive workplaces.
“Whether you have already started or you need help to start your plan, we can help.”

Tom Arthur, Minister for Employment and Investment, Scottish Government, added:

‘’Experience shows that fair and flexible working practices can help employers improve recruitment and retain staff, ensuring more people are able to stay in employment and provide an income for themselves and their families.

“That is why we have made payment of the real Living Wage and providing an effective voice for workers conditions of grant awards from the Scottish Government, its enterprise agencies and other public bodies.”
