First SOSE Youth Advisory Forum members receive qualifications
As we look to expand the membership of our Youth Advisory Forum, two current members are celebrating the award of national qualifications.
Lewis Shaw and Jake McLaughlan have both been awarded their SCQF Level 5 Participative Democracy Certificate, which comes as one of the many benefits of being a Youth Advisory Forum member.
Lewis from Annan and Jake from Dumfries are the first two members of the Forum to complete this qualification, which gives participants the opportunity to develop their communication, decision-making and negotiation skills in the context of democratic engagement.
We have joined forces with YouthLink Scotland to offer this optional qualification to all its Youth Forum members.
Join the Youth Advisory Forum
We are currently recruiting young people aged 16 to 25 who live in Dumfries & Galloway or the Scottish Borders to join the Youth Advisory Forum, with the deadline set at Monday 30 September.

Melissa Gunn, Youth and Employability Manager said:
“It’s fantastic to celebrate the first two qualifications to come out of the Youth Advisory Forum.
“Jake and Lewis both thoroughly deserve it as they have shown real dedication, positivity and commitment, and continue to contribute well to the Forum.
“Having the option to complete the qualification is one of the many benefits of joining the SOSE Youth Advisory Forum.”
Jane Morrison-Ross, Chief Executive added:
“At SOSE, we believe the voices of young people should be heard which is why we set up the Youth Advisory Forum.
“The Forum is a space for young people to help us and our partners shape the decisions and plot the future for the South of Scotland.
“Forum members receive training, and the option to gain skills and experience to add to your CV.
“There is also the option to complete the SCQF Level 5 Participative Democracy Certificate delivered in collaboration with YouthLink Scotland - just as Lewis and Jake have successfully managed.
“If you are eligible, join the Forum and join our exciting journey for the South.”
Jake McLaughlan added:
“The process of completing the qualification was really straightforward.
“It was completed as part of my role with the Youth Advisory Forum and the reflective piece at the end provided a good opportunity to look back at everything we have achieved, which filled me with pride.”
