Facing My Challenges: Overcoming Doubts and Building Confidence
These thoughts didn’t just pop up—they shouted, and some days, they were all I could hear.
Starting something new is hard enough, but for me, the biggest challenge hasn’t been learning business skills—it’s been overcoming my own mindset. Imposter syndrome is real, and it’s something I’ve battled every step of the way. I’ve caught myself comparing my progress to others, wondering if I’m out of my depth, and doubting whether I have what it takes.
One thing I’ve realised is that these feelings are normal. Almost everyone I’ve spoken to who’s started their own business has admitted to feeling the same way at some point. The difference is they didn’t let those doubts stop them. They acknowledged the fear but kept going anyway.
For me, the turning point came when I started reaching out for support. I joined a local business group and connected with other women who were in the same boat. Hearing their stories and sharing my own struggles made me feel less alone. It reminded me that I’m not supposed to have all the answers right away—and that’s okay.
Another thing that’s helped is focusing on small wins. Instead of worrying about where I want to be in five years, I’ve learned to celebrate the little steps I’m taking right now. Whether it’s attending a workshop, sketching out a business plan, or even just talking about my ideas with someone, every small action feels like progress.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of being kind to myself. Building confidence takes time, and it’s okay to have bad days. What matters is that I keep going, even when it feels hard. I’ve started to see challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to grow.
If you’re struggling with low confidence or imposter syndrome, know that you’re not alone. It’s a normal part of the process, and it doesn’t mean you’re not capable. Surround yourself with people who believe in you, focus on small steps, and remind yourself of everything you’ve already overcome.
This journey isn’t just about starting a business—it’s about proving to myself that I can do it. And every step I take, no matter how small, is a step closer to becoming the person I want to be.
